IRS Announces Three-Month Filing, Payment Extension

The Internal Revenue Service announced a three-month tax filing and payment extension to Boston area taxpayers and others affected by Monday s explosions.

The Internal Revenue Service will provide penalty relief to anyone unable to file on time due to severe storms in parts of the South and Midwest over the past few days.

Revenue Ruling 2013-11 provides various prescribed rates for federal income tax purposes including the applicable federal interest rates, the adjusted applicable federal interest rates, the adjusted federal long-term rate, the adjusted federal long-term tax-exempt rate. These rates are determined as prescribed by § 1274.

The rates are published monthly for purposes of sections 42, 382, 412, 1288, 1274, 7520, 7872, and various other sections of the Internal Revenue Code.

Revenue Ruling 2013-11 will be published in Internal Revenue Bulletin 2013-20 dated May 13, 2013.
